Mouvement pour l'Autonomie de la Kabylie
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mouvement pour l'Autonomie de la Kabylie (MAK) is a non-violent autonomist group seeking the independence of the province of Kabylia from the nation of Algeria. Led by folk singer Ferhat M'henni, the MAK is composed of Algerian Berbers, centered around the city of Tizi Ozou, who are frustrated by the efforts of the government to assimilate the minority into the Arab majority. The immediate goal of the MAK is regional autonomy, but M'henni has described this as only the "first step towards a federalist state".
