Mount Gibraltar is a small mountain between Bowral and Mittagong in New South Wales, Australia.
It is thought to have been created by an 'igneous intrusion' rather than a volcano.
The mountain has many lookouts and is 861m above sea level.
It was previously the site of a granite quarry (trachyte). This quarry can be reached by walking trais going up the side of Mount Gibraltar. It now has three good lookout points over Bowral and Mittagong.
On a clear day it can be seen from Echo Point in Katoomba (approx 70-80 km away).
[edit] Railway
The Main South Railway passes underneath Mount Gibraltar in a tunnel, called the Gib Tunnel. The original tunnel was single track, but it was replaced in the 1920s by a double track tunnel.
