Talk:Motown Sound

[edit] Capitalization
Any reason why it's "Motown Sound" and not "Motown sound"? Hyacinth 10:54, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- ...because "Motown Sound" is actually a trademarked proper noun devised by the label itself. --FuriousFreddy 04:37, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Question about quote
- "People would listen to it, and they'd say, 'Aha, they use more bass. Or they use more drums.' Bullshit. When we were first successful with it, people were coming from Germany, France, Italy, Mobile, Alabama. From New York, Chicago, California. From everywhere. Just to record in Detroit. They figured it was in the air, that if they came to Detroit and recorded on the freeway, they'd get the Motown sound. Listen, the Motown sound to me is not an audible sound. It's spiritual, and it comes from the people that make it happen. What other people didn't realize is that we just had one studio there, but we recorded in Chicago, Nashville, New York, L.A.--almost every big city. And we still got the sound"
I thought the Motown Sound was a specific combination of instruments. Correct? 2_of_8 03:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Specifically "rats, roaches, and love". Hyacinth 07:28, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Can someone help here
This article was created recently Motown_music not sure what to do with it, if anything. Should it be merged with this one Motown Sound? Should it be merged with another article, if so, which? I'm Wiki-technically challenged and do not know what to do, but feel as though something needs to be done. Any help is appreciated. (Not my project, I just like Motown and stumbled upon it). I'd be willing to work on or with it, if needed, and if someone can be my help-buddy or summit. :) --Jeeny 21:43, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that they seem to be essentially the same topic. I edited both articles to propose that "Motown music" be merged into the "Motown Sound" article. Vandelay 21:46, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I read what was merged here and removed it; it's essentially a summary of what's already here and at Motown Records. --FuriousFreddy 21:56, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
