Motion blindness

Motion blindness is a neurological condition caused by brain damage (from a stroke for example). The visual perception is intact in other ways and it's possible to see clearly though they are not able to see motion and instead see things going in frames. In a particular example the subject's stroke caused lesions to the middle temporal area (area MT or V5) in both sides of the brain, just above the ear. This condition makes it difficult to do simple things such as cross the street, or pour a cup of coffee.[1] [2] It has been suggested that the ability to see motion is crucial for survival.[3] This condition has been associated with Alzheimer's disease. Alzheimer's patients get lost not due to a memory problem, but possibly of this condition. Possibilities stem from this in that a person's failing ability to detect motion accurately could give doctors a way to detect Alzheimer's disease in its earliest stages.[4] [5] [6]
