While Desai accepted both the awards from India and Pakistan, no Bharat Ratna awards were announced during his primeministership as he was said to be averse of giving such awards. The inconsistency as to why he accepted the ward later is not clearly known. I can't cite sources for these (was in the newspapers when he got the BharatRatna award), so these don't go into the main article. if someone can corroborate this, pl. add to main page. -- Gurubrahma 07:17, 19 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] bharat ratna and Nishan-e-pakistan

Nelson mandela also received both the awards bharat ratna (1990) and Nishan-e-pakistan (October 3 1992) see List of awards bestowed on Nelson Mandela. Hence Morarji is not the only person who received both the awards --Vyzasatya 19:20, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Urine-drinking

There's something about him drinking his own urine as medicine. should we include this here?

Pasting this part from the article. Please post it back with citation if the fact is for real.

Well, the citation is real. Regarding the fact, we should ask Mr. Vargas Llosa. The book is "Los Cuadernos de Don Rigoberto". My copy was published in 1997 by Santillana, S.A. - ISBN 84-204-8263-3.

Here it is: [1] :During the First World War, doctors dosed patients with urine to ward off gangrene. Morarji Desai, the Indian prime minister from 1977 to 1979 who lived to the age of 99, drank a pint of his own urine every day.". Also, I remember seeing an interview on 60 Minutes, an American television program with him in 1978, where it was discussed. Many people in the US were shocked to hear it. See [2] and [3] --rogerd 18:30, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citations in Literature

In The Notebooks of Don Rigoberto, under the chapter "The smell of widows", Mario Vargas Llosa wrote that Mr. Desai, while being PM, used to read his speeches with pauses so he could drink sips of his own urine.

[edit] Emergency and extension of Lok Sabha Term.

During the emergency Parliament term was extended. Moraji Desai was against the corruption where as record say he was drawing salary as a Member of Parliament during extended period also. Will any body give correct information? vkvora 14:15, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
