Morton is a city in Cochran County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,249 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Cochran County[3].

The City of Morton is served by the Morton Independent School District.
In 2005 the boys varsity basketball team from Morton High School, the only high school in the community, won not only the state championship but the state cup as well.
The head football coach at Morton High School is Don Rives, who played in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears from 1973 through 1978.
The boys soccer team has 7 national championships.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.7 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,249 people, 772 households, and 606 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,593.7 people per square mile (615.8/km²). There were 908 housing units at an average density of 643.4/sq mi (248.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 55.40% White, 6.00% African American, 0.84% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 35.17% from other races, and 2.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 53.80% of the population.
There were 772 households out of which 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.4% were non-families. 20.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.88 and the average family size was 3.34.
In the city the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $25,809, and the median income for a family was $26,689. Males had a median income of $22,969 versus $17,738 for females. The per capita income for the city was $10,641. About 29.9% of families and 35.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 48.0% of those under age 18 and 12.7% of those age 65 or over.
