Hit-Parade is Quicksilver's third album, released in 1967. It is a concept album, which the concept is that songs from the band is played by a radio station called "Radio Quebec" with between commercials, announcements and speeches from animators.
"Hit-Parade" marked a change in the band's direction. It was the first Quicksilver album without any participation by Steven Banks, although his role in the previous album, Year 3000 was diminished with Dan Gibson's arrival in the band. It is also the first Quicksilver album featuring no progressive rock, oppositely to the band's two first albums, replaced by progressive rock (mostly inspired from Pink Floyd) and other rock genres used by Led Zeppelin, as folk/hard rock. It is also the first Quicksilver's concept album. The band will often release concept albums or rock operas in later years, starting with the next album, Performance, released two years later.

[edit] Album information
The album cover was designed by Peter May and features the four members of the band sitting in front of a radio console with micros and a post-it note on which it is written "Radio Quebec — on air". The band's logo is painted on the piece's exit door and the band member's instruments are placed in a corner of the piece.
When it was released, the album has known a great success, but before it met this, many radio stations did not play the album on air. The album did not sell well, because he was not known. Peter May reacted about this situation and claimed :
Some radio stations — that I will not name — don't play the album on air because they say "it has already been played on". I think they don't like the concept, because it disorders their game plan. I know it's not right for them, but I don't agree the fact that they refuse to play our songs.
Finally, some radio stations diffused the album on air, but some have been more offended by May's attack, so they did not play Hit-Parade.
[edit] Album structure
The album's structure is made as a non-stop radio program. It starts with the first track, in which the program begins with a short theme. The animator welcomes the listeners and presents the first song, "Forest", then the second track plays and features the latter song. At the end of it, a commercial plays, then the track changes and "No Time for Sorrow" plays. When it ends, a jingle plays, then the track changes to "And Never Give Up", etc. All the album long is made as this, until the penultimate song "A Mexican on a BBQ..." ends and that the animator says the end of the program. The opening theme is played and we hear the listener changing station, then closing the radio. The album ends a few seconds later.
The structure was an idea from Peter May, who also thought to the album's concept while listening to a radio special program.
