The constituency was created in 1918. The county was previously divided between three county constituencies (Northern, Southern, and Western) and one borough constituency (Monmouth Burghs). The county constituency returning two MPs was abolished at and earlier date (1832?). Laurel Bush 10:37, 30 July 2007 (UTC).
