[edit] Cameo of Marx Brothers' father

sorry for my sloppy attachment of trivia regarding appearance of father. I meant it to appear under a separate heading within trivia. As it is (flowing from sentence about Ireland) it appears to be connected. I would appreciate if some kind editor wouldn't mind separating them.

Also in relation to the banning due to feared anarchy... it wouldn't surprise me at all. I am Irish and the more I learn about the neandarthal moral past in my country, the more amazed/ashamed I become. It certianly would be plausible, although I wouldn;t mind seeing a reference

I watched this movie the other night - I thought the phonograph began to slow down the tempo, not skip? Unless, you know, I've been laughing too much to hear it properly :P

As for Harpo's singing in the barrel, there is much debate over how many voices are heard in that scene and it is terribly unclear as to whether Harpo sang at all. Same here! The phonograph just started slowing down for some reason; it didn't skip! It's obvious because if it had skipped, the same lyric would continue playing over and over, which it didn't... (If a nightingale could sing like you, they'd sing much sweeter than they do/ 'Cause you brought a new kind of love/ To me / If the sandman... (Garbled lyric) ... my whole life through/ For you brought a new kind of love To me...) Also, it's not been truly verified or not whether Harpo Marx can actually be heard during the SWEET ADELINE moment in the forward hatch. Since Harpo and the rest of his brothers are hiding in kelp barrels, you can't see their faces or see their mouths moving. I've watched the scene many times, and to be honest I only heard Zeppo's voice, Chico's voice, and most of all, Groucho's voice. The debate is forwarded by this line between the Captain and the First Mate:

CAPTAIN: (Gruffly) What is it?

GIBSON: Captain, I'm sorry to report there are four stowaways in the forward hatch.

CAPTAIN: Stowaways! How do you know there are four of them?

GIBSON: Why, they were singing "Sweet Adeline"!

If Harpo's voice wasn't heard, why would the First Mate so confidently report that there wee four stowaways? The fact that Harpo's voice has rarely been heard by even the most ardent of Marx Brothers fans only lends obscurity to the humor in this line. --- JS, 156.110.47.73 14:47, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sequels, reception and impact
