Monumento de Santiago

Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración, Monument of the City of Santiago de los Caballeros, in the Dominican Republic. It was constructed by Rafael Leónidas Trujillo in the 40's as an honor to himself. But when the regimen disapared, the government changed the name to "Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración" (Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration).

It is located on a hill in the middle of Santiago with spectacular views of the city and surrounding mountains. It also has a surrounding park and it is an attractive place at night where people go to relax and shoot the breeze.

The Monument just finished a remodelation prosess that includes the construction of three ´´Plazas´´, one dedicated to Santiago's Costums, the other to Famous Dominican Writers and the last to one the ´´Aguilas Cibaeñas´´ or Cibao Eagles, the local and extremely popular baseball team. This complex will contemplate the most modern security system of Santiago, with 34 surveillance cameras, a visual museum of Santiago's costums, amongst other attractions. This Visual Museum will be the Biggest in the Caribbean Region.
