Monte Cassino Girls High School

Monte Cassino Girls High School is a Catholic boarding school 7km south of Macheke in the Mashonaland East province of Zimbabwe.

The school was founded as part of the Catholic Mission at Monte Cassino in 1902. The founder of the school received his inspiration while he was at Monte Cassino, a hill in Italy where Benedict of Nursia established his first monastery. Like many mission schools in Rhodesia, Monte Cassino was one of the first ones which provided education to Black African people.

The girls school has flourished over the years earning its current reputation under the headship of Mr Johannes Michael Chingonzoh and Sr Yvonne. Monte Cassino has prided itself in its excellent academic achievements and has recently acquired an Advanced Level Suite. The school has benefited from the dedication of Precious Blood sisters and the Benedictines, who have provided high quality academic and pastoral education. Monte Cassino school has contributed tremendously to Zimbabwe and the world at large by producing young ladies of enviable character and high aptitude.

There are four houses at the school which are: Nightingale, Birkenheorff, Chaminukka & Kizito. Some of the longest serving staff being Sr Pia, Sr Yvonne, Sr Sturmia Dent, Mr Gwena and Mr JM Chingonzoh.
