Monchegorsk (Russian: Мончего́рск) is a town in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, founded in 1937 and located on the Kola peninsula. Population: 52,242 (2002 Census);[1] 68,652 (1989 Census).[2]

The name of the town derives from a Sami word monce, meaning "beautiful".

Monchegorsk is a center of nickel and copper production (a Norilsk Nickel plant, formerly Severonikel), and the area surrounding the town is severely polluted. It hosts the Monchegorsk Air Base of the Russian Air Force.
