Aruba is a Constitutional Monarchy, Parliamentary Democracy and a Constituent Country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. As such, the Dutch Monarch (presently Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands) is also constitutionally the head of State of Aruba, represented in the country by a Governor. The prime minister is the head of government and is chosen by the people.
Aruba is a self-governed independent federal state in the Dutch Monarchy, in much the same way that Monaco is related to France. In a similar arrangement, Aruba does not have its own foreign affairs department or policy; such matters are handled by the Dutch government. Together with the Netherlands Antilles and The Netherlands, Aruba forms a commonwealth.
