Mona Grudt Bittrick (born April 6, 1971 in Hell, Stjørdal, Norway) a green-eyed redhead, became the first Norwegian to capture the Miss Universe title in 1990. Although she was not a favourite prior to the pageant, she became the clear favorite of the judges, winning the interview and swimsuit preliminaries and during the semi-finals, she won all three competitions. During the 1990 Miss Universe competition, she listed herself as "The beauty queen from Hell" as a publicity stunt (since she was born in Hell, Norway).
In 1990, major format changes in the pageant caused Mona to be the first Miss Universe to face two rounds of eliminations on finals night. Instead of from a top 10 to a final 5, it became a top 10 to 6 finalists. Then, after a round of questions, the top 6 became a final 3. In any case, Mona breezed through the competition, winning it all. Her runner-ups were Carole Gist of the U.S. (she is incidentally, the first black woman to ever become Miss USA), and Liseth Mahecha of Colombia.
During her reign, she appeared in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and she was the last Miss Universe to accompany Bob Hope on his USO tour.
Today, Grudt is the editor of the Norwegian wedding magazine Ditt Bryllup (en. Your Wedding).
Also, Mona Grudt came on 2nd place in the Norwegian version of Dancing with the Stars, in Norway called Skal vi danse (Shall we dance).
Now she is married to American Brody Bittrick, and they have 2 kids.
