Mono home (The North American Indian; v.15)

CREATOR Curtis, Edward S., 1868-1952.

SUMMARY Description by Edward S. Curtis: The Mono inhabit east-central California from Owens lake to the head of the southerly affluents of Walker river. The snow-capped Sierra Nevada rises abruptly on the western border of this inland basin. The wickiup shown in the plate is a typical winter shelter, and the utensils are burden-baskets and sieves, or winnowing-trays. All these baskets were appurtenances of the one wickiup.
