Description

A representation of the Moncreiffe tartan, also known as the Maclachlan (old) tartan. In 1974 the chief of Clan Moncreiffe wrote to the chief of Clan Maclachlan for permission to use the tartan for his own clan. According to the then chief, "I took a fancy to an 18th century suit in a red and green diced tartan in the Edinburgh Castle Museum... and decided to adopt it as the Moncreiffe tartan with the red to represent the sacred tree from which we took our Gaelic Surname..."
