Literally means "fighting" in classical Arabic, moharebeh is the term used in Iran's Sharia law to describe a major crime committed against Islam and the state. It carries a punishment ranging from imprisonment to death.
On July 31, 2007, the Iranian judiciary confirmed that two journalists[citation needed], Adnan Hassanpour and Hiva Boutimar, were sentenced to death on the charge of moharebeh. They were detained in conjunction with the 2005 prostests in Sanandaj.[original research?]
