[edit] Reality vs this article

"It is believed that a small breeding population of the Gorilla's descendants may still roam The Moehau Ranges."

I added a "verification needed" bit because as a New Zealander I should make clear to anyone from overseas that the only people who believe this are nutters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.135.231.49 (talk) 03:49, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dubious in the extreme

1) The gorilla, if it ever existed, that escaped from a ship in the 1920s, must have been a pregnant female!!! Otherwise its descendants could not be. No ship name given, please note! And what is Wai Aro?

2) I removed Orbell from the list of references. There is nothing about the Moehau creature in Orbell. And I doubt that there is anything in Alpers either. Looks very like the person who added the original reference list to this article just grabbed a few references out of the air, thinking that no one would bother looking them up.

3) I find it objectionable when people claim Maori legends as source but don't say where, who, when. And anything from the South Island is irrelevant here, especially when not tied to any source. Kahuroa (talk) 01:08, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
