I-35W Mississippi River bridge, South-West pier.

I took it in 1996 while visiting Minneapolis. It is a picture of the South West pier of the I35W bridge which collapsed on August 1, 2007. I was impressed by the mechanism allowing the bridge to shift back and forth on enormous gears, like a huge carriage floating on a rack and pinion-like system.

This picture shows much less rust then the following picture which someone took 9 years later (2005):
