ml_iPod is a Winamp plugin that enables music to be loaded onto and off of an Apple iPod without using iTunes via Winamp's Media Library. One of the main attractions of the plugin is being able to transfer files from the iPod to your computer which is not possible with Apple's iTunes software.
It is written mainly by Will Fisher, based on the original version by Justin Frankel and Christophe Thibault. Copy to hard drive feature by Daniel Green.
Due to the popularity of this plugin, Nullsoft added mobile device support natively in Winamp version 5.2, written again by Will Fisher. This update includes support for Apple iPods, Creative Zen and PlaysForSure certified devices. Because much of the functionality of ml_iPod is now native to Winamp, Will has stopped the development of this plugin.
Citing that Nullsoft's own support is not yet as powerful as ml_iPod, ml_iPod as of April 25, 2006, is being maintained and enhanced by Achim Bursian. Since then several updates have been issued, which included bugfixes as well as new features, like support for album art, podcasts, last.fm, iPhone, iPod touch and audio books.
[edit] Latest version
The latest version, 3.05, was released on April 21, 2008.
There have been some patches since then, available for download.
