[edit] Mind set

Self-confidence is emphasised as the school teaches that any hesitation or thinking could prove fatal; for example if an attacker or Uke (受け) attacks, , with a knife then the Tori must already know what they are going to do as in less than a second a knife will be plunged into their abdomen. Miyama Ryu was created and has evolved to focus on the preservation of one's own life.
