Mixed metal oxide
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mixed metal oxide (MMO) electrodes are devices with useful properties for chemical electrolysis. The term refers to a mixture of platinum-group metals used to form the surface of the electrode, which provides efficient electrolytic action while resisting corrosion from highly reactive products such as chlorine.
Applications include electrolytic cells for producing free chlorine from saltwater in swimming pools, and anodes for cathodic protection of buried or submerged structures.
