New York State Route 359 is one of the shortest state highways located in Onondaga County. The route begins at an intersection with New York State Route 38A and Heifer Street in the town of Skaneateles. Route 359 comes to an end 1.71 miles later at an intersection with New York State Route 41A in Mandana. It lies between Skaneateles Lake and Owasco Lake.
It is the only instance in New York of a route designated without an alphabetic suffix that terminates at both ends at suffixed routes. Signed as a north-south route, it lies that way at the southern end, but about midway along its length the road turns and thence travels east-west.

[edit] Route description
New York State Route 359 begins at an intersection with New York State Route 38A in the town of Skaneateles.[2] Route 359 heads to the north passing through farmlands in Onondaga County. Route 359 crosses through a forest before intersecting with Weeks Road. There, Route 359 makes a large curve to the northeast towards Skaneateles Lake. The highway then merges in with Lacy Road and heads directly eastward through more farmland. Route 359 then gets into some residential areas and terminates at New York State Route 41A along the lake shore.
Although close, the route does not quite extend to Niles. It ends about half a mile north of the northern border of the Town of Niles which is contiguous there with the border of Cayuga County. The Niles hamlet, on NY 38A, is about a mile south of the southern terminus.
[edit] History
Route 359 originated in the 1924 numbering of roads as New York State Route 26.[3] Route 26 went from the city of Ithaca to Syracuse. The route was divided into several segments by the 1930 New York State Route renumbering, however 359 did not get assigned until several years later.[4]
