Mississippi Press Association

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Founded in 1866, the Mississippi Press Association (MPA) is a trade organization located in Jackson, Mississippi. The organization represents Mississippi daily and non-daily newspapers published at least once a week with general, paid circulation.

The MPA is the sixth oldest press association in the United States.

The MPA's business affiliate, Mississippi Press Services (MPS), was founded in 1978. Rather than a business having to go to 100 plus newspapers in the state to purchase advertising - which would entail 100 plus separate payments as well as 100 plus separate copies of the advertisement, the business can utilize MPS' advertising service whereby MPS will handle all details and the business customer only need to deal with one agency, that being MPS.

Additionally, the MPA runs the Mississippi Press Association Education Foundation (MPAEF). It was organized in 1984 to promote the advancement of journalism education, study, research and development through financial assistance, internships, fellowships, lectureships, visiting editorships and professorships, donations of time, materials and equipment, and through other forms and methods of assistance and aid.
