[edit] 2001 to Date
Although Miss Intercontinental is sometimes claimed to be one to the top Grand Slam pageants in the world of beauty, it remains a low level pageant that struggles to find delegates and host countries to make it a world class pageant as the name suggest, it also suffers from claims over who actually owns the trademark Miss Intercontinental, WBO claims to own in in Europe but another company claims to own it in China.
| Year | Date | City | Country | Entries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2001 | June 21 | Coburg | 33 | |
| 2002 | June 8 | Fürth | 33 | |
| 2003 | July 2 | Berlin | 34 | |
| 2004 | July 24 | Huhhot | 54 | |
| 2005 | July 30 | Huangshan | 61 | |
| 2006 | October 15 | Nassau | 45 | |
| 2007 | October 13 | Mahe | 41 |
It's highest number of delegate count was in 2005 in China where they had 61 delegates, since then however they have struggled and had as few as 41 delegates in 2007. The contest has been reduced to going to small islands like the Seychelles and the Bahamas due to a lack of the organisations ability to sell the pageant to major countries, part of the reason seems to be the huge franchise / hosting fee demanded estimated to be in excess of US$500,000.
The pageant also suffers from allegations of predetermined outcomes and political influence when picking its winners some National Directors have been known to been asked by the organization to sit on the Jury, a move unheard of in most International pageants.
The winner of Miss Intercontinental does not have any significant or visible role in the world of pageants and it far from a celebrity along the lines of Miss Earth, Miss Universe or Miss World.
