Mischka Hunter

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mischka (Alexi) Hunter was born December 1975 in Vancouver, British Colombia and has lived throughout North America. After exploring many different career opportunities, Alexi decided to pursue a career in glass art. He recently graduated from the Crafts and Design program at Sheridan College Institute in Oakville, Ontario.

Alexi applied to the Crafts and Design Program because he knew that he wanted to make objects, and after working with glass for only a few short weeks, the material resonated with him. He enjoys the physical process of working the glass to create simple forms, which he then alters. Much of Alexi’s work is inspired by his childhood memories. In the New and Used series, Alexi is referring to the natural decay of objects such as machinery found on his aunt and uncle’s farm. Alexi enjoys creating a contrast of textures on different forms. He tries to take advantage of the optical qualities of the glass when engraving, while at the same time obscuring parts of the surface. His goal is to create objects which will continue to hold meaning in the future.
