Grand Theft Auto: Mission packs

The Grand Theft Auto Mission packs are expansion packs for the game Grand Theft Auto. Two packs were released separately in 1999; both require the original Grand Theft Auto game to be completed in order to run. Both are set in London, the capital of England and during the 1960s.

Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #1: London, 1969 is a mission pack for Grand Theft Auto. GTA: London was released on March 31, 1999 for DOS, Microsoft Windows. In April 1999, a version for the Sony PlayStation was released. The game uses the same game engine as Grand Theft Auto, thus giving the game graphics reminiscent of the aforementioned game, and the gameplay and game mechanics are also very much alike those found in GTA. Like GTA the mission pack is divided into sub-sections with short cutscenes in between. GTA: London is also notable for being the first ever Playstation expansion pack.[1]
Instead of fictional locations based on real-life cities as featured in the original Grand Theft Auto (Liberty City, San Andreas, and Vice City), the game takes place in London, in 1969, as the title implies. The player once again enters the role of a criminal looking to work his way up the career ladder of organized crime.
The temporal setting has been exploited through a number of cultural and historical references, including the appearance of a mod/James Bond-like character, and the usage of stereotypical Cockney slang. In-game dialogue included such memorable lines as "Oi!, stop right there!", "You're nicked!" and "You're brown bread!" (i.e. You're dead).
Similar to the bonuses found in Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2, the player receives a large cash reward for running over a group of "soap dodging hippies" with a car without stopping or braking. Successfully performing the trick will be followed by a bold message reading "KEEP LONDON TIDY!" and a cash bonus.

Released on June 1, 1999, Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #2: London, 1961 is a freely distributed mission pack, or expansion pack, to Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto Mission Pack #1: London, 1969.[2]
Like GTA: London, 1969, it uses the same game engine as Grand Theft Auto. As the name implies, the game takes place in London in the year 1961, eight years before the events that took place in GTA: London, 1969. The expansion includes new missions, 22 new vehicles, a new cutscene, and a new multiplayer deathmatch map based upon Manchester. The 1961 setting makes this mission pack the earliest GTA game chronologically.
Unlike GTA: London, 1969, this game is only available for PC, as it is downloadable freeware. At just 7MB, GTA: London, 1961 requires GTA: London, 1969 which, in turn, requires Grand Theft Auto. GTA: London, 1961 seems to be the least known chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series, most likely due to its inconspicuous download location and dependence on word of mouth[citation needed]. It can also only be played with the original GTA London, 1969 disc; it does not work with the version included in the Grand Theft Auto: The Classics Collection pack.
