Mirusia

Mirusia (born c. 1985 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) is an opera singer.
She was born of Dutch and Polish ancestry in Brisbane, Australia. As a young girl she began singing and taught herself to sing country, jazz, and pop music before starting singing lessons at age 12 learning jazz and musical theatre. Studying at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in Classical Voice, Mirusia developed a love for opera and won four scholarships during her time there. She graduated in December 2006 with a High Destinction and an Academic Achievement Award obtaining a Bachelor of Music in Performance in Classical Voice. In 2006, Mirusia became the youngest ever winner of the Dame Joan Sutherland Opera Award and went on to record a debut album entitled 'She Walks in Beauty.'
Mirusia is a lyric soprano and has performed in such operas as The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, L'Enfant at les Sortileges by Maurice Ravel and Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten[citation needed].
Mirusia has been touring with well known violinist Andre Rieu since 2007 as Soprano Soloist. In May 2008, Andre Rieu and Mirusia released an album entitled 'Waltzing Matilda' in Australia which made it to the number one position on the Australian Music Charts and went platinum within 10 days.
