Miroslav Benka (Serbian Cyrillic: Мирослав БЕНКА) (born April 22, 1956) is a Serbian screenwriter, actor, director and a designer, professor of the International University, born in Asanja in Vojvodina (ex Yugoslavia) in a Slovak family. He graduated from the College of Applied Arts in design and from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Acting Department. He also graduated from the Faculty of Drama Arts in Belgrade, Directing Department. Benka is guest professor at the Faculty of Drama Arts in Bratislava, as well as a Director and Artistic Director of the City Drama Theatre in Zilina, Slovak Republic and Managing director and Artistic director of National Theatre Sterija in Vrsac and Managing director and Artistic director of Vrsac Autumn Theatre Festival, Yugoslavia.
Benka directed as many as 50 theatrical performances classical and contemporary playwrights. He directed documentaries films and advertisements, TV shows, music clips, radio dramas and multimedia – ambience projects ( he will be remembered for the authors project LUX IN TENEBRIS made in one of the most beautiful Castles Bojnice), Slovak Republic.
Significant work in the physical theatre (S.O.S., Makkê Sny (Soft Dreams), Panem et Circenses (Bread and Plays)). In almost all of his performances he is the author of total design. He exhibited at the World Stage Design Exhibition of Quadrienalle in Prague. Other exhibitions include: Ours in Prague – Gallery Progres, Belgrade, Yustat – Biennale of Stage Design, Museum of Art and Crafts, Belgrade and Triennale of Theatre Scenography and Costume Design, Novi Sad.
With his performance suuccessfully participated in Belgrade International Theatre Festival – BITEF, in Novi Sad Sterija’s Theatre Festival in Sarajevo MESS, in Ljubljana EX PONTO, in Zagreb Dance Week Festival, in Uzice Yugoslav Theatre Festival, in Presov Slovak Theatre Festival, in Nitra Divadelna Nitra, as well as Austria, Egypt, Finland, Iran, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Yugoslavia...
He is a winner of many national and international prizes for his artistic work: State Prize for directing of author's performance SOFT DREAMS Union dramatic Arts of Slovakia, Bratislava 1994 and Grand Prix for author's performance PANEM ET CIRCENSES ( BREAD AND PLAYS ) 24th International Theatre Festival Fadjr 2006, Teheran [1], Iran and Award for Best Scenography and Nomination for Best Performance and Nomination for Best Director on 19th Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre 2007, Egypt [2].
