Not being overly familiar with the processes of the Wikipedia, I nonetheless tried to change the phrase “got killed” (urgh) to something more readable “was slain.” The change was implemented but later reverted back to the previous version.

You have not been reverted. I think you are looking at the cached version before you edited it: try forcing a refresh. (Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+R depending on your browser). I agree much with your edit. Jor 23:09, 11 Mar 2004 (UTC)
