importance stems from not just height of peaks but iconic status (eg ansel adams) of this image to california identity Anlace 22:59, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Basalt, not granite

I forget where I read it, I think at the Minaret Summit display where you can overlook the entire valley, that the Minarets are actually basalt and not granite, left over from long ago when the area was actually covered with lava and an ancient sea. I'll go back there sometime soon when the summit is driveable again, get the info and correct at that time. Kidshare (talk) 05:37, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
