Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (India)

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, a branch of the Government of India, is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules and regulations and laws relating to women and child development in India. As of May 2008, head of the ministry is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) M. S. Gill.[1]

The Ministry was set up as the Department of Sports at the time of organisation of 1982 Asian Games New Delhi. Its name was changed to the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports during celebration of the International Youth Year, 1985. It became a Ministry on the 27 May 2000.
