Ministry of Home Affairs (India)

Ministry of Home Affairs (Hindi: गृह मन्त्रालय), of the federal Government of India, commonly known as Home Ministry is headed by a Minister of cabinet rank. Minister of Home Affairs is supposed to be the number two position in the government.

The Home Ministry has been headed by some of the most influential names of Indian politics e.g. Sardar Patel, C. Rajagopalachari, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Lal Krishna Advani.

As of May 2008, the ministry is headed by Shivraj Patil.

  • Department of States (Hindi: राज्य विभाग)
  • Department of Official Language (Hindi: राज भाषा विभाग)
  • Department of Home (Hindi: गृह विभाग)
  • Department of Jammu and Kashmir Affairs (Hindi: जम्मू तथा कश्मीर विभाग)
  • Department of Border Management (Hindi: सीमा प्रबन्धन विभाग)
