Minall is a surname that originates from the Wiltshire village Mildenhall (locally pronounced Minal - as in "Mine-all"). Many families can be found around the Wilshire village in clusters in the 16th century.
A prominent branch developed in the village of Bucklebury between the 17th and the 19th centuries. By 1860, they had mostly died out.
A Minall descendant from Bucklebury began a branch of the Minalls in Tring. They lasted until 2000, when the last Minall, Stanley James died on the 1st of December. Minall Close, off Dundale Road was named after Stanley who had owned the surrounding land.
The first Tring Minall of note was Alfred Minall (1850-1911), who was the first taxidermist to Lord Rothschild of Tring. Minalls also exist in Radlett, Hertfordshire, and Cheddington Buckinghamshire some 7 miles from Tring.
One, Stephen Minall has a successful career in Hospitality, writing articles on the subject and is often seen on the BBC as their pundit. Stephen has a restaurant concept called WRAPID, see www.wrapid.com.
There are more Minalls in Sussex and Somerset as well as Australia, USA and Asia.
