[edit] Track Schedule
There are 3 tracks - Kupono, Malama and Laulima. Kupono starts the school year first, then Laulima, then Malama. Basically, the track schedule is 6 weeks of school then 2-1/2 weeks break. When Kupono starts the school year, Malama is still on their last term (they still have 3 more weeks of school until the end). When Malama ends their school year, its Laulima's first day. Three weeks after Laulima starts school, Kupono ends and Malama starts the next day after. This cycle goes on and on. A track is situated at either on the second or first floor of a building, depending on when it started. Mililani Middle School originally had four tracks: Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green.
[edit] Faculty and Staff
Mililani Middle School's current principal is Valerie Kardash, replacing Roger Kim in 2007. Current vice principals include Gayle Yamaguchi, Greg Nakasone, and Lynette Lukela.
[edit] Classes
All Mililani Middle School students take mandatory core classes. Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science are required classes for all 6th, 7th and 8th graders. 6th grade students also have one elective, and two "wheel" classes, similar to electives, but a student can't choose his or her wheel.7th and 8th graders are given two electives and just one wheel. In all, a student has seven classes (Four Cores,1 or 2 Wheels, & 1 or 2 Electives). Students have Their wheel(s) for nine weeks, then they change. Wheels include health, music, art, physical education (sports and mass conditioning), consumer sciences, computer literacy, and more. Electives include New Media Design, Tech Ed, Japanese, Art, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and more. Most, if not all teachers at Mililani Middle teach multiple subjects.
[edit] Accelerated Reader
Mililani Middle uses the Accelerated Reader program. AR determines a large portion of a students Language Arts grade. If a student borrows an "AR Book" from the library, then reads it, he/she can take an "AR Test", which asks questions about events and characters in the book (Students may also read an AR book if they already own one). Depending on how well they score on a test, a student receives "AR Points", and students can receive prizes if he/she has a certain amount of AR points.
