Miles Macdonell Collegiate is a high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the River East Transcona School Division. It is one of the five schools in Manitoba that participate in the International Baccalaureate Program. The school offers classes in French Immersion geared towards university attendance in either official language. Miles Macdonell also offers several vocational tracks of study, including Cosmetology (hairstyling and nail care), Health and Child Care (which leads to Health Care Aide certification on graduation), and Business and Computer Technology. Students can also complete a dual diploma, earning both an academic high school diploma and technical/vocational certification.

In only its fifth year in the WHSFL, the Miles MacDonell Buckeyes have been to the city championship twice (2003, 2005), and won it all in 2005.

[edit] Music Program

The school has one of the best music programs in city, and the best recording studio in any school in Manitoba. Quite a few albums have been produced in the school, mainly consisting of the school's choir program and their vocal pop group called "Prodigy". Prodigy has performed in various countries, including Scotland, Austria, Mexico, and the United States. When Queen Elizabeth II came to Winnipeg in 2003, Prodigy was able to perform for her, as well as performing at the International Peace Gardens for the 5th anniversary of 9/11.

[edit] Festival Théâtre Jeunesse

On May 8th, 2008 a select group of students from the French Immersion Program participated in the 39th annual Festival Théâtre Jeunesse at the Centre culturel franco-manitobain. The groups' production entitled "Le Long Voyage" took home many awards and was eventually presented with first place in the Best Overall Production Category.

Miles MacDonell Collegiate is one of the few high schools in Manitoba to have an active alumni association, the Miles MacDonell Collegiate Alumni Association with its own web site. This web site has a full school history and historical information on the local area.
