Joseph Higgins
September 11, 2006, Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation's North Plant in Steubenville is seen in the distance along the hills. West Virginia has blasted the entire hillside from WV State Route 2 at U.S. Route 22 (The Veteran's Memorial Bridge) to Follansbee southward. The hill was effectively pushed back to allow for a four-lane highway to replace the old two-lane road. The highway was seen as necessary for two reasons: Increased traffic from Ohio residents traveling to Weirton and Pittsburgh for work and Economic Development.
