IMDb profile

Mike and Angelo was a TV series that ran on CITV between 1989 and 2000. It centred on Angelo (played initially by Tyler Butterworth, and from series 3 onwards by Tim Whitnall), an alien who came from another world during the first series; the portal from his world being that of a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms. He lived with Mike (played for most of the show's run by Michael Benz), a young boy who lived with his mother called Rita. Later series' had a new actor playing Mike's aunt Katy Murphy who was called Katy. Together, Mike and Angelo would get up to all kinds of crazy adventures - all within the vicinity of the house that they lived in. Angelo would always be inventing something crazy, or walking on the ceiling (due to him being an alien), or summoning up historical figures from the past. They would always wreak havoc together (much to Katy's annoyance, crying "ANGELO!!" in her Scottish accent constantly). Their neighbours were the posh Fawkes-Bentleys, in whose house some of the show's scenes were occasionally based.

The 1999 series began with Angelo and Katie reading a postcard explaining that Mike was having a good time in America. In his place, Aunt Daphne's niece Michaela (portrayed by Gemma Gregory) became Angelo's sidekick. For the final series, a new character also called Mike (but with no apparent link to the previous character of the same name) joined. The final series was shown in 2000.

[edit] Production

The series was initially produced by TVS, who at the time had many American interests and hoped to sell the series on both sides of the Atlantic. After loosing their franchise the series was picked up Scottish Television along with many other CITV programmes made by TVS. STV continued producuction until the show was axed in 2000.
