Mihály Bakos

Mihály Bakos also known in slovenian: Miháo Bakoš (around 1742, Šalovci, Kingdom of Hungary, today SloveniaApril 9, 1803, Surd, Hungary) was Hungarian Slovenian Evangelic Priest, teacher and writer.

In 1779 he became Priest of Surd, then part of the County of Somogy, (now in Zala). In the 17th and 18th century numerous Slovene families from Vas settled down in Somogy. Bakos's predecessor was István Küzmics, also a Slovene writer who translated the New Testament in his local Prekmurje dialect.
Bakos was Pastor in Križevci, in Prekmurje, between 1784 and 1785. He later returned to Somogy, where he served as the dean for Somogy and Zala counties.
In 1791, he wrote a Slovenian hymn-book Krszcsánszke peszmene knige ("Christian hymn-book").
