[edit] Mig-17 ?

This image is clearly misidentified. In my opinion it's Mig-17.

  • If you will measure wing sweep angle on image it will be 45 degree (like Mig-17), not 35 degree as expected for Mig-15.
  • The outer sweep angle is also different - it's 42 degrees, on Mig-15 they must be same.
  • There is a flat spot before the wings start to sweep. On the Mig-17 it is very long. But on Mig-15 it is very short, not noticible in most photos.
  • This plane has 2 pitot tubes - Mig-15 expected to have one, Mig-17 has both one and two configuration.
  • Wing tips on the back end of the wing are rounded on Mig-17, more square on Mig-15.
  • As well - photo taken in 1981 can be hardly Mig-15 (still possible) - more likeky Mig-17.
You are correct, this is a MiG-17, probably an F model. - Emt147 Burninate! 20:38, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
