Talk:Midland Canal

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Name?

Does this canal really get called the "Midland" in English? I've never heard anything but the German name, "Mittellandkanal". Googling, I see the Columbia Encyclopedia uses "Midland Canal", but other hits are to webpages relating to canals in the English Midlands.

To get rid of the English Midlands and of German language hits, I added the search term Saxony (for Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony, two of the states it runs through). The results are Mittellandkanal 1120 and Midland Canal 428. I also prefer Mittellandkanal (because I associate Midland more with Birmingham than with this canal), but I'm not a native speaker (neither English nor German).
