Mid-Missouri is a loosely defined region comprising of much the central area of United States state of Missouri. The regions largest city is Columbia (population≈ 100,000).[1] The Missouri state capital, Jefferson City, the University of Missouri are also located here. The region also includes parts of the Lake of the Ozarks, the Ozark Mountains, and the Missouri Rhineland. Mid-Missouri is centered on two congruent metropolitan areas: the Columbia Metropolitan Area and the Jeff City Metropolitan Area, which together have a population of over 300,000.[2]

Counties that are usually considered to be in the Mid-Missouri region are: Boone, Cole, Moniteau, Callaway, Osage, Gasconade, Callaway, Randolph, Howard, Pettis, Saline, Miller, Camden, Chariton and Macon. Counties that are sometimes considered to be in the Mid-Missouri region: Adair, Warren, Maries, and Phelps
