[edit] Where his different characters are billed from is a little inaccurate

Since I'm not a regular contributor and I cannot edit the Foley page I would like to ask somebody to please amend the location which Dude Love is billed from, from Long Island, New York to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Dude was being billed from there well before Cactus was and every youtube video I watch of a Dude Love match he is billed from Truth or Consequences. It was my absolute favourite introduction. An example can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD2R8feSsbI Kind regards!

[edit] Air America Radio / liberal political views

I added in a couple of sentences about Mick's guest-host stints on Air America. Perhaps someone can expand that into a small section about his liberal political views, which seem to be something of a rarity among pro wrestlers. 65.170.194.210 10:52, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Acting/Stranglemania

I edited his acting section as it referred to his movie with ICP. The first "Stranglemania" release were in fact Japanese matches from the IWA King of the Deathmatch tournament. --RevAladdinSane 07:55, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hosed sentence

"Foley last appeared as Dude Love in 1998, but recently appeared as Dude Love on a October 2005 episode of RAW hyping a match "Pick the face of Foley" with Carlito at Taboo Tuesday 2005."

That sentence doesn't make much sense as it's written. If Dude Love appeared in both 1998 and 2005, then they can't both be the most recent appearance. Was the 1998 appearance the last wrestling appearance of Dude Love, while the 2005 appearance was simply promotional?

I failed to sign the aboved "hosed sentence" comment. - Takeel 16:24, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

The 2005 appearance was solely promotional to build hype for Taboo Tuesday 2005. If the appearance of a gimmick does not have anything to do with that particular gimmick wrestling in a match, then it does not constitute as an official appearance. For instance, when Cactus Jack appeared in the same segment it did not constitute as an official appearance which makes the Hell in a Cell match against Triple H at No Way Out 2000 the last official appearance of Cactus Jack. [[User:K-man1|K-man

The act was promotional 98" was Dude loves last match. AND STARTED TO SUCK

[edit] Organize

I'm suggesting that we should seperate the sections according to Foley's 3 personas (Cactus Jack, Mankind and Dude Love). Edraf 11:54, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I believe that having a section for each of these main personas is a good idea, but I'm not so sure that it's a good idea to base the entire article around that concept. --Takeel 14:56, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
  • I think each persona should have their own page, with elaborate information on their persona, history, characteristics etc. etc.,i think that could turn out quite interesting.

Lord revan 15:25, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

I think each persona should have an article on this page, but not seprate pages all together.

---- he has FOUR characters, since he also wrestled as "Mick Foley"; more than any other pro wrestler.

[edit] Billing

I'm sure I remember when Mick first started out as Mankind he was billed as being from 'The Boiler Room' I was just wondering wether we should change his Billed From area on his info box to include this, if it is correct. MightyMightyFoe 23:52 14 February 2006

yes he was, mankind was stated to be from the boiler room on the warzone game for the original Playstation.

[edit] Birthplace

I was a little annoyed by the birthplace problem. Mick was actually born in Bloomington, Indiana and his family moved to Long Island after. The problem is I can't really find a dependable source and there's a lot of misinformation on the matter on the internet. Could I reference his book? This is where I'm getting this. kingpin388 18:39, 25 February 2006

I think his book would be as dependable as needed. Unless you want to request his birth certificate or something :) --Atari2600tim (talkcontribs) 18:50, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
Birth certificate? Not a bad idea... kingpin388 2:05, 26 February 2006
Alright the birth certificate thing went nowhere. kingpin388 2:21, 15 March 2006

well,if he says so in his book it must be true Lord revan 10:29, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

He was not from bloomington. That was an idea he suggested for his hometown for his Cactus Jack persona. He's from Long Island. -sithboy7 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sithboy7 (talk • contribs) 00:10, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Books

It might be worth adding more to the section about his books; as it is, the article sounds like (and probably was) written by a bunch of wrestling fans who haven't read any of the non-wrestling books. (I'm guilty of this too!) Bcarlson33 11:25, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree, he had some very good reads. Whopper 03:59, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Length

Holy moley, this article is waaaaaay too long and has waaaaay too many sub-sub-sub-sub-categories. Any thoughts on where we should start trimming? Bcarlson33 04:04, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Listen, if his article is that long what does that tell you? IT TELLS YOU THAT HE IS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFULL PROFESSIONAL WRESTLERS OF ALL TIME!!!! IF NOT THE MOST SUCCESSFULL PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER OF ALL TIME!!!!! IF THE ARTICLE WAS SHORT PEOPLE WOULD JUST LOOK AT IT AND THINK "Oh this guy wrestled some okay matches and wrote a couple of books."!!!!!! THAT IS NOT THE KIND OF CREDIT THAT THE HARDCORE LEGEND DESERVES!!! MICK FOLEY DESERVES ALOT MORE CREDIT THAN THAT YOU DIMWITTED FOOL WHO JUST CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO READ A LONG ARTICLE. K-man-1 P.S: Please do not take offence to that. I'm just trying to prove a point, not to be rude.

Um, yeah, thanks for that. Anyway, I've been working to cut down on the excessive detail; feel free to join in, everyone. Bcarlson33 16:42, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Funny(because it's way too much) but seriously Bcarlson just wants to shorten the article because it's above the preferred article size. I haven't really helped with that and umm...I'm not really sure how to. kingpin388 14:40, 23 April 2006 (UTC-5)

[edit] Featured article

i think this article should be nominated as a featured article,it is easily one of the,if not the best, wrestler biography on this site.

Wow but what does "it exemplifies out best work" mean? Alright could we all figure out how to make this article "exemplary"? kingpin388 14:21, 29 March 2006 (UTC-5)

According to the "voters" : "images need sourcing and fair use rationales."

"Also, the article is 69kb long, which is pretty big. Finally, the images should be a little more evenly and cleanly distributed throughout the article, and at least one free image would be nice (though not key) for a bio."

"once trivia section is edited. Good article!"

basically,we need to trim the article, remove some of the useless trivia,"source" the images. and remove the useless info in his bio. Lord revan 05:25, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Do all the pictures need "sourcing"? I have to admit I created a reason to keep the Mankind Beyond the Mat photo just because I really liked it. Somebody else actually posted it, and I can only presume where they got it. kingpin388 11:35, 30 March 2006 (UTC-5)

actually i have no idea what "sourcing" means, but then again, most of those WP guidelines pages are so friggin hard to understand.

PS : i have uploaded another Cactus Jack photo,if anyones interested. PPS : great job on trimming kingpin Lord revan 17:29, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

I'm a big fan of Foley's so I'd love to see this article make FA, but it needs a lot of work. One of the focuses needs to be copyediting it, because a lot of it is sloppy right now from a style and grammar standpoint. I'm going to start working on that particular aspect of things. For the record, sourcing the images is (if I'm not mistaken) crediting where you got it from; best bets are from official and reputable sites. Frackintoaster 23:26, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Injuries

do we really need the WHOLE list? i mean, its pretty bg,its like listing the ladders jeff hardy has done a swanton off Lord revan 05:05, 31 March 2006 AND NOW I HATE!!!

Why not? He has a diagram of them on the back of his first book, and released a t-shirt listing them, they don't take up much space, perfect for the trivia section I reckon. 82.31.97.209 18:19, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

It's too long. Better to put a couple of the most impressive/scary injuries and then point people toward the book if they want the whole list. "Foley has sustained eight concussions, nine broken arms, two black eyes, etc. The back cover of Have a Nice Day includes a diagram of his many injuries." Something like that makes more sense than a gigantic list. Bcarlson33 18:58, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Speaking of Injuries, the Wikipedia article mentions that The Undertaker had a broken jaw:

"At one point they planned on having him wear a mask which they planned for Undertaker to wear when he broke his jaw"

'Taker never had a broken jaw. He had a fractured orbital bone thanks to Mable dropping elbows/biceps (or was it a botched leg drop?) on his face. That is why he needed the mask to protect his face around the eye area instead of the jaw. 'Taker could open, close, and move his mouth/lower jaw with no problem, thus I doubt his jaw was broken. Mick points out about the mask (which was a reject from the UT mask project,) on page 367 in his book, Have a Nice Day.

Thanks, ZeldasLullaby

It was a leg drop to the back of the head. I remember seeing it on TV; pretty painful-looking. Bcarlson33 22:01, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Where'd Cactus Jack come from?

"Foley formally trained at Dominic DeNucci's wrestling school in Pennsylvania, debuting in June 1985. In addition to appearing on DeNucci's cards, Foley and several other students also took part in some squash matches for WWE TV tapings. The group also made several tours of African countries.

After several years of wrestling in the independent circuit, Foley began receiving offers from various regional promotions; he credits a mention in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter for generating interest in him. Foley's next stop would Memphis-based CWA, where he teamed with Gary Young as part of the Stud Stable. Cactus and Young briefly held the CWA tag titles in late 1988. [2] On November 20, Foley left CWA after being defeated in a Loser-Leaves-Town match and went to Texas-based World Class Championship Wrestling(later USWA).[3]"

In these two paragraphs it switches straight from his debut to calling him Cactus Jack. When I originally put these paragraphs in it did explain when he was first called that and the name he debuted under was here too("Cactus Jack Manson", from an original version. I believe it was was moved down to the next paragraph). My point is that it should explain the name he debuted as in the sentence "debuting in June 1985" or elsewhere. Maybe it should be explained how he came up with the name (although making the article even longer probably isn't a good idea). Didn't he originally want the name "Cactus Jack Foley" because of his father or a relative? I can't remember where he thought of it. 207.38.226.34 20:14, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

IDK, but it mentions something in Have a Nice Day about it.... i dunno what it was exactly, but it has the orgin of the name Doc Strange 12:48, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

Some of the later sections of his career need to be cleaned up... they're a little crufty. Good rule of thumb is that the entire feud doesn't need to be chronicled, just the notable highpoints. Frackintoaster 15:25, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Trivia Section

It's gotta go. But is there anything in there that could be incorporated somewhere else in the article because it crosses the threshold from "interesting" to "important"? Frackintoaster 21:14, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Clean up

I tagged the article for clean up. 73kb is way too big. The career sections should be summarized using summary style and the details should be moved to their own article. The succession boxes can be replaced by lists. --Jtalledo (talk) 11:40, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I removed "Foley got the idea for the gimmick from Leatherface", as his book says it was Creative's idea. CanadianRed 05:08, 26 June 2006 (UTC)BLA BLA BLA

[edit] Mr. Socko a weapon?

How could you call Mr. Socko a weapon? I don't really see it as one. It came about later in the Mankind gimmick, but to say it's a weapon is a stretch. Mr. C.C. (talk <-> contribs) (review me) 06:00, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Good point. It should be removed from there. It's more of a prop than anything else. --Jtalledo (talk) 11:51, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

its part of his attire, although he does use it to gain an advantage, it is no more of a weapon than rikishi's thong when he does the stinkface 81.110.2.1 11:15, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

it should come back --82.23.235.59 22:26, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay then, list a REASON why it should come back. --PlaguedKiller —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.142.130.21 (talk) 23:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Retired??

Since 2000 Mick Foley has appeared on wwf/wwe television numurous times. And has also been in a few feuds such as with Randy Orton and more recently with Ric Flair. I personally think that the retired section in the infobox should be left blank for the time being since he is still technically active. Bill102 22:38, 17 July 2006 (UTC) i dont know how you could count robots as active that aint wrestling!

[edit] Terrible Picture

Seriously, I know we can do better than a faded out family photograph for Mick Foley, one of the most important wrestling personalities of his day. --Pathogen 01:54, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Are you referring to Image:Mick_Foley.jpg? In that case, I'm not sure where the gripe is - it's a good quality image, with Foley looking straight at the camera (unlike some of the free wrestler photos) and it's free. --Jtalledo (talk)
Who cares if he is looking straight at the camera? Any of those other pictures you're referencing are still of far better quality than this one. A photograph taken by a professional will have better definition, look "professional" (as it were) and for that matter not look like an eye-sore. Long story short, that picture is awful. I would take a side profile of George W. Bush or something over a poorly-lit family photo. Consider the appearance of the "official" Bush picture that is put up in government offices. --Pathogen 20:54, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
The current image is fine. Not every article has to have a studio quality photograph. McPhail 00:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
"Who cares...?" I take umbrage to that. It's hard to find good free photos. Anybody can do a Google Image search, upload an image here and slap a fair use tag on it. Take a look at Wikipedia:Image use policy#Fair use considerations, which says "As a general rule of thumb, Wikipedia allows low-resolution images of copyrighted material if they are unlikely to affect the potential market for the material, are used for the purposes of analysis or criticism, and for which there is no alternative, non- or free-copyrighted replacement available"
There is an alternative here. It's a picture of Mick Foley - not of Dude Love, Catcus Jack or Mankind and Foley is the subject of this article. If we cared as much about the infobox pictures as much we did as the article, then this article wouldn't be a 70KB clean up case. --Jtalledo (talk) 19:45, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
If you want to upload another photo, even if it is fair use, fine. I've had my fill about arguing with people about how "terrible" the pictures in the infoboxes are. I'll stick to editing the text. --Jtalledo (talk) 19:47, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup and verb forms

Obviously, there is way too much content here. I would not be opposed to someone just picking up the razor and going nuts making cuts. Additionally, this article should mostly be in the PAST tense. The word "would" is in this article 70+ times, and nearly every time it described an event that happened, not something that conditionally would happen. For instance: "After several years of wrestling...Foley's next stop would be Memphis-based CWA." Would it be? Or was it? He wrestled there, so that WAS his next stop. Cut first, then go through and change all the tense mistakes. If I have a lot of free time one of these days, I may go through and do it myself. Croctotheface 09:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

The initial picture should sort of encapsulate the man and his craft. I think a picture from one of Mick's bloody wars would be best, with lots of blood and barbed wire everywhere. After all, Mick is the most famous of all the "hardcore" wrestlers WHICH NOW I CHANGED MY MIND BECAUSE FINLAY IS.

[edit] Huey Foley?

I can't find a source for Huey Foley, except that it would be pretty funny if Mick named his sons Huey and Dewey. Google searches indicated that Randy Orton mentioned "Huey" at some point during the feud, and then I found a forum post from someone who said that there actually was a Huey. Otherwise, no sources. If there is a real source for the Huey Foley, feel free to put the information back with a citation. In the meantime, I'll keep reverting it. Croctotheface 02:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, so, Foley himself mentioned Huey on TV yesterday. I'm inclined to consider that a reliable enough source, unless he's actually doing it to confuse the fans. I wouldn't be opposed to someone putting it in the article. Croctotheface 00:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

JR wished Huey a happy birthday during Foley's Entrance at WM 20

Foley talks a little about his youngest son Huey (as well as middle son Mickey) in The Hardcore Diaries, so cite THAT as a reference. --86.4.62.160 00:49, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Austin/Dude match finish

For my money, the finish of the match is not relevant to an article on Mick Foley, unless we think that it's especially important AND Foley somehow came up with the idea. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, and this article is still too long as it is--if it were 18kb instead of 48kb, I wouldn't be so adamant about keeping this out. Notable feuds and spots should be in the article. The feud is notable, but the way Austin won the match isn't really relevant to an encylopedia article about Mick Foley. I'm going to revert it again. If others think that it should stay, let's have that discussion here. Croctotheface 06:54, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changes to the Trivia section

I removed entries becuse they were either non-notable or mentioned in the article itself. Croctotheface 18:05, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New book

In his latest blog on wwe.com Foley mentions he is writing a new book called "The Hardcore Diaries". Unfortunately, due to his on-screen firing, everything Foley-related has been removed from wwe.com, so it can't be sourced currently... You can actually find it via Google's cached version though.

---This week on Raw(2/19/07) Foley was in an interview talking about his new book. I suspect once it hits stores he will be back in the ring.Gundam94 17:10, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

---I have a copy of The Hardcore Diaries, so yeah. Uhhhh.... He has a 3 year contract with the WWE to wrestle 2 matches on PPV every year, plus 1 extra PPV appearance ,as well as any TV tapings to help build up to said appearances. --86.4.62.160 00:46, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NJPW Triple Crown Title match with Kawada

I quote obsessedwithwrestling.com's Foley bio: May 8, 2004 - Z1 Hustle-3: Toshiaki Kawada defeated Mick Foley to retain the Triple Crown. Since the Triple Crown is so presteigous, I think Foley's title match is worth a mention. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.4.58.237 (talk) 22:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC).

hes best known for his time in the WWF not ECW and WCW

[edit] "generic" music

Does not Foley state in "Have a nice day" that the generic Cactus Jack song used in WWF was written by Michael Hayes? Worth a mention, if its in triva. And does anyone else remember the same music being used when he first came out in WCW in the early 90s (or I could be confused by WWF pasting the music over whatever was actually used on its DVDs)?

The piece of classical strings music that Mankind initially used as his entrance theme is Samuel Barber's "Adagio For Strings" 195.194.77.109 16:01, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Speaking of theme music, what song does he use for entrance music in IWA's King of the Deathmatch?!? 24.68.69.28 (talk) 06:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

He never used a Megadeth song to my knowledge. The song you hear from his WCW days and IWA Deathmatches sounds more like the 'Meat Puppets', vocally anyway. I wish someone could find out who did it and what its called. --Somedude —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.74.237.76 (talk) 04:36, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted Trivia

These have been deleted:

  1. Foley took his trademark catchphrase "Bang, Bang!" from the B-52's song "Love Shack." The song was running through his head at the end of a match, and he held his fingers up like pistols while reciting the "bang bang bang on the door..." verse.
  2. At the 1998 Royal Rumble Foley appeared as Cactus Jack, Mankind, and Dude Love, the only time in which one performer appeared in the Rumble under multiple gimmicks, thus making him the only man in history to lose the Royal Rumble three times in one night.

Both are true. Foley's first book is a reference to the first piece and the Royal Rumble DVD can be used as a reference to the second. Cactusrob 19:30, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Picture

Just wanted to say that the motion pictures in this article are really good it would be great to see them used more on wikipedia.

[edit] Actual height

On a podcast interview he says that he is 6.4 not 6.2. Bencey 22:35, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Final ECW Match Billing

I'm not going to add it since I don't have any sources for this other than a vivid memory of seeing it on "Hardcore TV," but I feel it would fit in with the article. When he wrestled his last match in ECW, the ring announcer said "From Stamford, Connecticut, the greatest place known to Mankind, Cactus Jack!" or something very similar to that. Again, i don't have a source on it, so I didn't want to add it myself. Stupid5pin 07:29, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FMW

There is piece of Foley's career missing. It is the time spent wrestling in FMW. I am not the most knowledgable on this part of his career. Mr. C.C. 18:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Children's b-days

Should they be added on here since I believe that they are in his books? I knows that his oldest two children's birthdays are in his first book. Noelle's birthday is Dec. 15, 1995 is anyone wants to add it. (MgTurtle 23:29, 17 July 2007 (UTC)).

[edit] Front teeth

Where in Have a nice day does it state that Foley "Lost his ten front teeth in a match with the Killer Bees"? Foley states that he lost his two front teeth in a car accident during his tenure with WCW, in said book. He doesn't have ten missing teeth anyway...Daigo 14:56, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

Someone vandalized the article by changing the number two to ten. I changed the information and added it back. Also, new posts on talk pages go at the bottom under a header, not at the top. Nikki311 19:33, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

That's cool, but I'm pretty sure Foley states in H.A.N.D. that he lost his two front teeth in a car accident during his WCW tenure...he had previously claimed in kayfabe that Sting kicked them out during a match in Raleigh. All he says about the Killer bees match is that his jaw swelled from the injury caused by Dynamite Kid, causing him to bite his lip and his mouth to bleed. I'll check tonight. If that's what the book states I'll change the article and add references. Daigo 07:51, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, he lost the teeth during his first stint with WCW, I'll change the article and add the reference...Daigo NLI

also, Vader didn't powerbomb Foley over the ropes to the outside in their injury spot in WCW, it happened outside the ring, I've seen the tape Daigo 11:56, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Foley reality show

Can someone find a reference and/or link to add to the A&E reality show statement? I took a quick look on Google, but was unable to find one. If one cannot be found it should be deleted for now. Thanks! Josborne2382 01:34, 29 October 2007 (UTC) I'm afraid I can't remember where I heard or read it, but I swear Foley called the whole thing off on grounds of not wanting to expose his kids to public limelight too much. --86.4.52.35 (talk) 01:07, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
