Can someone confirm that the cite to his family being born on the island of Lesbos is a joke?

Why should be a joke.There is an actual Greek island called Lesbos.

Can anyone confirm the using greasepaint when he was 20 caused his hair to fall out story? If that is true why is it that in a 1991 episode of Seinfeld that he is in, does he have hair? Now obviously he is going bald at the time, but he still has a good amount of hair.
