Micronesia Mall

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Micronesia Mall, located in Dededo, is the largest shopping center on the island of Guam.

A mix between an outlet mall and an indoor, American-style shopping mall, Micronesia Mall's sole anchor is Macy's, which is also the only Macy's store west of Hawaii. The mall is also home to designer boutiques such as Coach, Benetton, Guess and Levi's. In addition to a food court and the Micronesia Mall Theatres, there is also a 24-hour supermarket inside the mall, another deviation from the traditional American mall structure. A theme park is located inside the mall having roller coasters, carousel, bumper cars and an arcade. It also has a KB Toys store which is the largest in Micronesia.

Micronesia Mall's proximity to Andersen Air Force Base in Yigo attracts military personnel from that base, in contrast to its competitors Guam Premier Outlets in Tamuning and Agana Shopping Center in Hagatna which are closer to the Naval Base in Piti and Santa Rita.

The Micronesia Mall opened on August 8, 1988 - a date chosen by its owners for luck: The number "8" is considered a lucky number by Chinese and other Asian cultures, and thus 8/8/88 was considered a desirable date for a grand opening.
