Michelle Witmer (February 13, 1984-April 10, 2004[1] was a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq. She attracted a great deal of media attention due to the fact that her twin sister was also deployed. Subsequently, the military removed her sister from harm's way, citing the risk that enemy forces would target her in an effort to harm U.S. morale, which would endanger her fellow soldiers.[2] Her story was told in the HBO documentary Last Letters Home.
