Michael Read

Michael Read is an English long distance swimmer and former holder of the title of King of the Channel for the most successful swims of the English channel - 33 to date[1]. (The title now belongs to Kevin Murphy who has completed 34 - the current Queen of the Channel is Alison Streeter with 43).

Michael was picked to represent Great Britain in Swimming in the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome but unfortuantly due to injury, was never able to compete.

First person to complete a 4 way swim of Lake Windermere (41 miles) on 20 July 1972.
First person to swim Loch Tay (14 miles) in August 1973.
First person to swim Loch Lomond (21.6 miles) twice.
Most English Channel Swims in a Year by a man - 6 in 1979. (Alison Streeter holds the out right record with 7 in 1992).[3]
