[edit] Early life
Michael Falkingham was born in Ilkley, Yorkshire, where he spent most of his childhood. The second son of Beryl and Roy Falkingham, Michael was given his name by his brother, Peter, who was inspired by the make of coat he usually wore. Raised a protestant, Michael Falkingham was an atheist. In his home in Ilkley, he grew up alongside his brother and they both attended Ilkley grammar school, for a time. Michael's first job was as a 'pizza boy', the name given to the boys who delivered the pizza's.

Michael Falkingham attended Portsmouth University, and graduated, receiving the B.Sc.Degree in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics Award. The award for 'Best 1st year student on the MEng/BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering Degree at the University of Portsmouth,' is actually named the Falkingham Prize, in memory of him.
[edit] Life after University
When he left Portsmouth University, Michael worked for W.J. Groundwater Limited and was involved in the Conwy Tunnel Project. Michael Falkingham settled down in Conwy Wales and was married to Victoria Vassallo, they were married in a registration office, as Ms Vassallo had already been married. They had a son Samuel, who was baptised in Malta, his mother being from Malta. In the 1990's Michael became the Conwy United Treasurer as well as keeping his job in Chester (WJ Groundwater). Michael later became a director of WJ in March 1995, alas he would only enjoy that post for five years before he died.

On the 28th May 2000, while at his home in Conwy Michael Falkingham died of a Coronary heart attack aged 37, leaving behind his wife and six year old son, Sam. On his gravestone there is written:
Forever in our hearts. Until we meet again
Also in memory of him the building he worked in, WJ Chester headquarters, is now called 'Falkingham house.'
