It is a permitted image by Microsoft for the express purpose of using in relation to Xbox Live Marketplace items. It also saves a lot of space that would be taken up by saying "Microsoft Points" or "Points" (which unto itself is undescriptive). It is the same fair use as the use of the Gamerscore picture.
