An aerial view of the manufacturing area at Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF). MAF is located 15 miles East of downtown New Orleans, Louisiana, with approximately 1.9 million square feet of manufacturing floor space occupied by the prime contractors, Chrysler and Boeing, during the Apollo program. MAF manufactured the stages of Saturn IB and Saturn V. It currently manufactures the Space Shuttle External Tank (ET) under the direction of the Lockheed Martin Corporation.
This photograph was taken in 1968.

This photograph was taken in 1968. View shows Facility fronting Gentilly Road, with the preserved smokestacks from the old Michoud Plantation visible in front at left. Beyond the facility the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway canal can be seen. |
